Yellow Gold Tanzanite Tear Drop Ring
Share
Here a recently finished engagement ring with a large vivid blue color pear shaped faceted Tanzanite set sideways in a 18k Royal gold ring.
The 1.3ct Tanzanite, measuring about 8.8 x 5.8 mm, has a beautiful blue color with purple flashes. Combined with rich yellow gold this ring is surely getting some attention. Hard to not notice that color splash on a finger. I love this color combo.
I am very happy with how the ring turned out. Setting gemstones in 18k yellow gold is such a teat, such an easily malleable metal that moves beautifully when hammered around the stone. I wish more people would order yellow gold rings from me.
I did carve the ring mounting in wax, cast it in my studio and hand finished it.
Below a picture of the wax model. It's the 3rd from left side.
And here the waxes prepped before burnout and casting:
The waxes were grouped together by the metal they had to be cast in. Since this was the only 18k yellow gold ring it had a flask all by itself.
