I noticed I am getting more and more orders for platinum rings. This is a trend I hearty welcome. I love working with platinum. It's such a beautiful white metal without the warm gray tones white gold can have. And it's hypo-allergenic on top of it. Great for people with sensitive skin and metal allergies.
I recently finished these two platinum rings from my Wave collection:
The blood red color of the 4mm genuine ruby goes great with the bright white platinum. And of course combining platinum with a white sparkly moissanite is always a classical approach.
Here more pictures of the Ruby Wave ring
. The ruby was a 4mm B-grade genuine ruby.
While I love setting precious gemstones in platinum, polishing platinum is no fun. It takes forever!!!
Polishing platinum takes easily 2-3 times it takes to finish a white gold ring. And it requires diamond coated finishing tools and special polishing compounds. Finishing palladium is pretty time intensive too but platinum even tops that.
This is a selection of different grids of sanding rolls and platinum polishing wheels and brushes. Most of these are diamond coated to be able to cut platinum. I love those new EVE Diamond Twist Brush Discs. They are expensive for what they are but they really help getting into tight areas. Saves precious time in the end. They cut through light scratches on platinum fairly easily and make a nice polish finish when using them in various medium to extra fine grids. Unfortunately they don't last very long. But as long as the cost justifies the time saved it's worth it.
