October Birthstones

Those born in October are lucky to have two gorgeous gemstones as their birthstones: Tourmalines and Opals.

With its pulsating display of fire and rainbow color, Opal was long thought to hold magical powers. Opals are fairly soft and fragile. I don't recommend them to be worn in rings. But they are such pretty stones in necklaces and earrings.

Tourmalines come in perfect fall colors. The greens and pinks are the most common. Tourmalines are more durable than opals. They can be worn in cocktail rings, necklaces, and earrings.
